Julie Magneville is a visionary stage director, filmmaker, and choreographer acclaimed for crafting powerful, immersive works at the intersection of contemporary dance, physical theatre, and cinematic storytelling. Her creations are driven by a striking visual language and a deep sensitivity to the body in motion, resulting in performances that are both visceral and poetic.
She trained at ESDC Rosella Hightower and the CNSMD in Lyon (Contemporary Dance Department), and further refined her artistic voice at The Ailey School in New York. Her creative path has been shaped by collaborations and workshops with leading figures such as Wim Vandekeybus, Ohad Naharin, Shiro Daimon, David Hayo, and Akram Khan.
As a performer, Julie has worked with internationally renowned companies and choreographers including Gregory Dolbashian, Crystal Pite, Victor Quijadas, Margie Gillis, O Vertigo, Théâtre du Corps, Donald McKayle, Larrio Ekson, Guillaume Bordier, Bruno Agati, and Mickael Marso Riviere. She also performed in the globally acclaimed musical Tarzan, choreographed by Sergio Trujillo with music by Phil Collins.
Driven by a passion for interdisciplinary creation, she collaborates with artists across visual arts, media, and performance, including Taiwanese artist Ivan Liu, French interdisciplinary artist Laurent Barnavon, and Canadian artist Jeremy Bailey.
Her work spans prestigious international platforms: she staged and choreographed The Words and Rhythms of Desireby Alain Héril for TEDx, and contributed as a choreographer to the globally successful TV show So You Think You Can Dance. She also served as Movement Director for the Panthéonisation ceremonies of Robert Badinter and Marc Bloch in France, bringing a refined choreographic language to these historic national tributes.
Her debut short film, In Memorium, received the Audience Award at the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema and the Best Dance Choreography award at the Oniros Film Awards, marking her distinct voice in dance cinema.
Julie has created large-scale, internationally acclaimed productions, including world tour performances for the singular pop-alternative artist Sevdaliza (The Great Hope Design, ADE Performance in Amsterdam with Red Bull Music, and the livestream concert Colors of the Night). She choreographed the Opening Ceremony of the African Games in Rabat, directing over 250 performers on stage.
Her work seamlessly extends into fashion and high-profile live events, including staging the FrenchDeal runway at Paris Fashion Week. She has created works for Steps on Broadway and Peridance Center in New York, and conceived The Frame for Le Gala des Étoiles alongside Paris Opera soloist Vincent Chaillet.
Among her major international achievements, she choreographed the multi-award-winning show Kiss of the Sea in Vietnam and the Opening Ceremony of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, confirming her reputation for delivering ambitious, large-scale productions with a distinctive artistic signature.
